Day 23 – 30 Days Wild

I am delighted & amazed at what I am discovering in the garden lately. Today I was pottering about & I could hear a munching / crunching sound coming from the gate.

#30DaysWild

At first I thought it may have been a Wasp, but I couldn’t see it. Then after looking the gate up & down I noticed a wee Bee in a crevice! 🐝

A Fork-tailed Flower Bee (Anthophora furcata).

Day 11 – 30 Days Wild

Today I have decided to share a wild moment from my past 🐦 😊

Day 9 – 30 Days Wild

Today I did try to get better footage of the House Sparrows, but they weren’t playing ball πŸ˜…

So when I noticed some interesting Black Garden Ant behaviour, I decided to focus on them instead today 🐜 😊

Day 8 – 30 Days Wild

Today I tried to get better footage of the House Sparrows sand-bathing, but had technical issues with my camera & not quite getting the right angle.

So I decided to watch some live webcams online & settled on the Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project website! 😍 πŸ¦‡

Maybe I will try again tomorrow with the House Sparrows πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Eurasian Nuthatch

On 28th March (2018) I was out walking with my mum, when I spotted a couple of Nuthatches on the edge of a wood where we were just about to walk through, and I happened to notice that one of them was putting mud around a hole in a tree, as its nest is in the cavity of the tree.

My mum and I was delighted to witness this and were both surprised at how close to the path it was.  Recently I purchased my latest video camera – my first semi-professional one – a Canon XF300 and decided I would return on a day with better weather and test it out on the Nuthatches.

On 5th April (2018), the conditions were perfect, so I went to where I observed said behaviour and thankfully the construction was continuing and below is what I filmed:

Wildlife in June

As I mentioned in my last blog post – a few years ago I made a series of short videos which were featured on the Reader’s Digest Magazine website, entitled Wildlife Monthly.

Each video is around a minute or more, detailing flora and fauna (mainly fauna) for you to look out for; below I have included one video from my June 2012 edition and three from my 2011 June edition – each with a coastal theme.

Day 10 – 30 Days Wild

“Watch a wild webcam”Β

10/06/16

TWT 30 Days Wild_countdown_10Today I was at work 9AM-5PM, so I needed another easy Random Act of Wildness, so I arrived at work with enough time to get breakfast and watch the Springwatch Webcam(s) in the staff canteen.

After I was done watching, I left the channel on, so somebody would find a live-stream of wildlife at work, and would maybe watch, enjoy and become a fan of Springwatch/become more interested in nature, if they’re not already! πŸ˜‰

Day 4 – 30 Days Wild

“Encourage wild at work”

04/06/16

I have been working most of the first few days of June, so I’ve opted for easy Acts of Wildness (I have had no choice really) for my 30 Days Wild ‘challenges’.  They are still enjoyable mind!  I particularly enjoyed Encourage wild at work, because it made me bring nature into the work place – more specifically; the staff canteen! πŸ’š

So what did I do?  Well, on my lunch break I put the Springwatch Webcams on the TV, it happened to be adorable Little Owls which were on screen. πŸ˜ƒ

Sophie, my colleague and friend, showed some interest and happily sat down in front of the TV:

Thanks. 😊
